Şekerbank T.A.S.,headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey, provides a variety of banking services. It has 273 branches and nine regional directorates across Turkey and one foreign representative.[1] It has extensive ties to foreign banks and financial institutions. According to the Turkish Public Disclosure Platform, the sovereign wealth fund joint stock company of Kazakhstan owns over 19 percent of Şekerbank stock.[2] In addition, 6.07 percent of Şekerbank shares are owned by the International Finance Corporation,[3] a member of the World Bank Group, with 184 countries as shareholders.
Şekerbank has a number of subsidiaries, including Şekerbank (Kibris) Ltd,[4] which conducts financial activity and has six branches throughout Northern Cyprus, connecting the Turkish and Northern Cyprus financial systems and by extension giving Northern Cyprus some access to the global financial system.[5]
